Language & International Support for Young Athletes

Perform. Communicate. Belong.

Tennis Player Focused

Personalised language, educational and international support for ambitious young athletes training, competing or pursuing opportunities abroad.

Whether preparing for an overseas academy, travelling regularly for competition, balancing languages with a demanding training schedule, or adapting to a new sporting environment, API Horizons helps young athletes develop the communication skills, educational confidence and international readiness to thrive.

When sporting ambition becomes international

For many young athletes, progress in sport increasingly means operating internationally: travelling to tournaments, training with overseas coaches, attending camps or academies, joining international teams or considering a longer-term move abroad.

But sporting ability alone does not necessarily prepare a young person for everything that comes with those opportunities.

Understanding a coach quickly, discussing tactics, explaining an injury, communicating with teammates or simply managing everyday life abroad can require very different skills from those developed in a conventional language classroom.

API Horizons helps bridge that gap.

The International Competitor

Travelling increasingly to French- or Spanish-speaking countries and wanting to communicate more independently at tournaments, camps and training sessions.

Historic Red Brick Building

Support built around the athlete

There is no standard athlete programme.

Support is designed around the athlete's sport, age, language level, educational commitments, training schedule, competition calendar, destination and future ambitions.

Depending on the athlete, this might include:

  • French, Spanish or English language development

  • Sport-specific vocabulary and communication

  • Understanding coaching instructions and feedback

  • Discussing technique, tactics and performance

  • Communicating about injury, recovery and physical condition

  • Speaking confidently with coaches, teammates and officials

  • Preparing for camps, tournaments or training abroad

  • Everyday language and cultural preparation for living overseas

  • GCSE, IGCSE, International A Level and A Level language tuition around training and competition

  • Intensive preparation before a specific international opportunity

  • Longer-term language development as an athlete's pathway evolves

Why API Horizons?

API Horizons brings these four areas together.

Founder Alex Iltchev has more than 16 years' experience in language education, including leadership and examining, alongside experience as Director of Squash and Year Group Coordinator for Tennis at Eton College.

As a competitive sportsman himself, Alex also understands the demands of training and competition.

His international programme experience includes organising work-experience immersion programmes and sports tours to Spain for squash and tennis.

This means sport isn't simply added to a conventional language lesson. The athlete's training schedule, coaching relationships, educational commitments and future ambitions help shape the programme.

How API Horizons can help

1. Initial conversation → 2. Athlete profile → 3. Personalised programme → 4. Flexible delivery → 5. Review & adapt

Every athlete's pathway is different.

We begin with a conversation with the athlete and their family to understand their sporting, linguistic and educational goals. From there, we identify where targeted support could have the greatest practical value.
